Tumblr doesn’t allow you to reblog asks, so I had to take a screenshot, but SO MUCH THIS.

BECAUSE ONLY WOMEN ARE KIDNAPPED! I GET IT!
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!
MEN ARE NEEEEEEVER ASSAULTED! EVER! EVER! EVER!
THEY ARE BORN WITH EXQUISITELY PERFECT MARTIAL ARTS SKILL AND MANLINESS TO GET OUT OF ANY SITUATION!

HOW IS THAT PRIVILEGE?
LIKE ARE MEN BORN KNOWING?
OR IS IT SOMEHOW NOT A PRIVILEGE TO BE EDUCATED?

I was never taught how to get out of the trunk of a car.
Does this mean I’m actually a man?

You just have to punch the light thingy out but I don’t remember if it works anymore? Or like how would you even punch it out like, if you’re tied up that’s out, if you’re weak (like most women are, sorry ladies but it’s a biological fact we’re weaker) than you’re also screwed. I guess you could kick it but that’d be hard in a tiny trunk of a car.

Wow you don’t have to be a genuis to get this one. Just go ahead and google abductions/murders where the body was found chopped up in the middle of a field or stashed in a barrel somewhere. 9 times out of 10 the victim will be a WOMAN. Of course, there are notable exceptions, such as Jeffery Dahmers victims, but I think his victims were also largely male escorts and if you are in the business of sex work, then self defense is no brainer regardless of gender.

Wowee. I didn’t expect this to get so many notes, or to bring out the blatant displays of ignorance that it did. But basically, what the poster above me said. Because violent attacks most often happen to women, we are taught (or learn on our own) to be constantly aware of our surroundings, know basic self-defense, and things like how to get out of a trunk. Male privilege is the fact that most men likely don’t think twice about walking to their car by themselves at night, while as a woman, I walk in a group if I can. If I have to walk by myself, I have my keys out and ready, both to decrease time I’m standing outside my car, and to use them as a possible weapon if I need to. I’m constantly taking stock of my surroundings, looking for anyone who could be watching or following me. If I do encounter someone, I look them straight in the face so that they know that I could pick them out of a lineup. If an SUV or van is parked right next to me on the driver’s side, I get in from the passenger’s side. Next to no men I know do this. This is routine for almost all women I know. Male privilege is the fact that men generally don’t even have to think about these kinds of things. A task that should be as simple as “walking to your car” becomes a huge ordeal for women.
I hate when people get SO offended by things like male privilege and white privilege. Like they’re being personally accused of being an awful person, just because they happen to be male or white. No one said you were a bad person, or that bad things never happen to white males. Privilege describes the greater power dynamics that are at work in our society. It’s not meant to make you feel guilty. It’s meant to make you AWARE that there is a problem, get you thinking about how society shapes and affects us, and maybe even become part of the solution.

Thank you ^

Nothing to do with “male privilege”. It is the privilege of the strong. The solution: Take testosterone and/or hit the gym and you will not be afraid…or wait for presence of technology, and thus obviate the need to strength to gender norm us over the next 10,000+ years. I don’t know of any women who take those precautions, but that is probably because I don’t associate with prey, male or female…well except for women that like to made to feel like food for fun and recreation…and they are generally badasses in real life.

New York City—On June 23, 2012, Ida Hammer approached Cathy Brennan in Washington Square Park after the Dyke March in order to clarify that the NYC Dyke March supports all women whether they are cis, trans or otherwise.

This interaction was prompted by a number of women who attended the march coming up to Ms. Hammer to express concerns about how Ms. Brennan has been targeting women and girls because they are trans. Ms. Hammer asked if these people would like to go talk to Brennan in person.

Ms. Hammer approached Ms. Brennan and said welcome to the New York City Dyke March where we support trans women. Ms. Brennan did not seem intimidated or threatened by this welcome and said she too supports trans women. Ms. Hammer tried to have a discussion with Ms. Brennan about the concerns the women who approached her had with her aggressively targeting and harassing women and girls.

As you can see in this video captured by a bystander, Ms. Hammer is unable to communicate these concerns as Ms. Brennan continues to talk over her. So Ms. Hammer exits the conversation. Ms. Brennan continues to talk with the other women moving to another area of the park.

Later that night, Ms. Hammer posted on Twitter:

“The @NYCDykeMarch is for ALL women! All self-identified women are welcome. All lesbian, bi and queer women whether cis or trans.”

Ms. Brennan replied on Twitter:

“@IdaHammer @NYCDykeMarch except wbw are not welcome. And you assaulted me. Well done dyke march! Video forthcoming.”

Ms. Brennan is encouraged to post the video she has of her interaction with Ms. Hammer as a video response.

Ms. Hammer has not interacted with Ms. Brennan before or after the conversation at Washington Square Park, yet Ms. Brennan has since been aggressively targeting Ms. Hammer with the very harassment that Ms. Hammer wanted to have a discussion about with Ms. Brennan.

Look, I’m FtM and a drag queen. I LOVE this blog. I have a friend, MtF who loves this blog. I have non-binary friends, who love this blog. I have FtM friends, who love this blog. Now we’re on the verge of hating it. We never will, but we’re on the verge of it. I hate the seperation. The OTT PC. No matter what the picture in the meme, they’re always funny and relate to FtMs, MtFs, GQ, ect. It’s not bias, it’s just humour. Stop seperating our community. We’re one. We’re under the trans* umbrella. We have the same struggles, we’ve been through the same stuff at one point. As for the “transwomen aren’t represented” - then girls, submit some ones for transwomen! As for the ditto thing, what’s wrong with it? Oh, the others are fish and that one feels left out cos it’s a pokemon? C’mon guys, it doesn’t matter, this is just a meme it’s for humour! Please just let things be the way they were, I hate this divide. I hate the divide of all the different types of trans* people. Anyone getting seriously upset about the picture on the meme is just being too picky and sensitive, it’s a meme. That’s like saying memes like socially awkward pengiun should be split by gender. That would sound ridiculous to you, well, that’s how it sounds to me when you want to split this.

Just my two cents.

CORSETPUNK
First thing I found in my intray this morning was this neatly corsetted masterpiece of Style and Elegance from, who else, Mademoiselle of Mystery herself. What a wonderful contrast to the Primark clad, junk food bloated samples of humanity I’ll see in the middle of Town today.——-Merci Cherie.
It is of course the delightful Ophelia Overdose being surprisingly demure.

Gender is more then just “boys have a penis and girls have a vigina”.

In popular imagination, gender is a 2-category system.  If you have a penis, your gender is “boy”; if you have a vagina, your gender is “girl”.  This system is factually false and laced with sexism.

In lived reality, gender refers to how we see ourselves.
How people see and identify themselves (gender identity) is variable and intrinsic.  In most cases, gender identities do not fit completely into the 2-category system (the gender binary).  This is because many of the attributes of these 2 categories are not mutually exclusive.

∴ Owing to its high level of variability, gender is an ineffective way to categorize people.  Biological sex (genitalia), while still highly varied, conveys much more stable categories.  However, categorizing people by their biological sex is only helpful in health/body contexts (medical care, reproductive services, body-specific clothing, etc) because biological sex says nothing about a person’s gender identity.

Hi! I just started a tumblr, the Transgender Couchsurfing Network.  After seeing dozens of posts come across my dash about displaced or homeless trans people needing places to crash, I decided that there had to be a way to organize these posts somehow, and to put those in need in contact with those willing to lend a hand.  If you’re trans and need a place to stay, or if you have a couch or floor or spare bedroom available for someone in need, I urge you to reblog this post, follow the blog, and get the word out.  Everything is still under heavy construction, but the more people that see and hear about this blog, the more people will be able to benefit from it!  I know that there are so many people here on tumblr who are in need of a place to stay for a night or two, and I also know how many amazing, wonderful people would be willing to host someone and help out a trans person in need.  We all know what a huge problem unemployment and homelessness are for trans people (especially TPOC and trans women) — even a place to stay for a night can make the biggest difference!  So PLEASE, even if you can’t offer up your couch, REBLOG AND SIGNAL BOOST.  I really, really think that this is something that could help a lot of people, and I would LOVE to see this spammed all over my dash and the dashes of all of my lovely followers!!

transmen usually carry themselves differently imho
